In which our intrepid hero belatedly discovers one of history’s great portraits.


Photojournalist Alfred Eisenstaedt—better known for his photo from Life magazine, V-J Day in Times Square—took this picture of Nazi Propaganda Minister Joseph Goebbels at the League of Nations in Geneva in 1933.

Goebbels had just learnt that Eisenstaedt was Jewish.
