I’m not usually one to start getting all high-and-mighty over the correct use of the English language, but there’s a trend that’s sweeping pop-foodie programmes—like My Kitchen Rules—that consistently sends me around the bend: it’s the use of the word “plate” as a verb.

The word is “present“. If you insist on talking about how well a steak is plated, then I expect it to withstand small arms fire.
